The challenge

Our client, a well-known retail and consumer services business, had created a new role within its finance function. This role was confidential, as it involved bringing a key function in-house, meaning the client could not advertise it directly and required our support under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

As this was a newly created position, the client also sought market insight to benchmark compensation. While a benefits package was in place, there was flexibility on salary depending on candidate experience.

What we delivered

Luminos took a detailed briefing from the organisation’s Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to fully understand the context and expectations. The ideal candidate profile included experience in transitioning a similar function in-house within a business of comparable scale. Beyond technical capability, the client prioritised leadership skills, especially in driving business partnering and delivering commercial impact.

We conducted confidential, targeted market research to identify and approach high-calibre candidates. All outreach was discreet, and NDAs were used before sharing role details with relevant individuals.

Outcomes

We identified and presented five highly suitable candidates. All were interviewed by the CFO, and two progressed to final interviews with the Chief People Officer and Chief Executive Officer. Both finalists were strong contenders, but one stood out for cultural alignment and directly relevant experience. The candidate accepted the offer.
