The challenge

Our client, a leading name in the retail industry was in the midst of rapidly expanding its technology team. However, the team faced a critical diversity challenge: a disproportionately low number of female applicants for tech roles. This imbalance was mirrored in its internal workforce, raising concerns about the inclusivity and representation within its team. The client was keen to understand the underlying factors contributing to this gender gap and sought actionable strategies to reach and attract a broader, more diverse pool of candidates, with a particular focus on women in tech.

What we delivered

To tackle this issue, we delivered a fully integrated research-driven solution:

Targeted Talent Mapping: We conducted in-depth market research to identify where qualified female tech talent was most active and engaged. This included analysis of online communities, professional forums, and social networks where women in technology were participating and networking.

Data-Backed Insights: We provided detailed analytics on the diversity landscape within relevant talent pools, including gender representation across roles and levels. We also analysed gender pay gap data to help the client understand any disparities and inform more equitable compensation strategies.

Direct Engagement with Female Talent: To gain firsthand insights, we facilitated a series of career conversations with female tech professionals. These discussions revealed what truly matters to women when evaluating job opportunities, ranging from company culture and leadership visibility to flexibility, development opportunities, and employer brand positioning.

Outcomes

We delivered a clear, strategic roadmap to help the client enhance the appeal to female candidates:

Our presentation outlined targeted steps the client could take to better engage female talent, from refining job descriptions to improving visibility at women-focused tech events. We identified and recommended high-impact forums and online groups for ongoing engagement, showcasing how similar tactics had successfully worked for competitors.

Our work helped raise internal awareness of the structural and perceptual barriers facing female candidates allowing the client to take measurable steps towards a more inclusive recruitment process.
